Those of us who grew up in Southwestern Pennsylvania could not help but encounter the old blue decorated pots. They seemed to be everywhere...cellars, attics, barns, yardsales. They all bore the names of local merchants of long ago, local towns and long-gone manufacturers. By ther late seventies, the collector world exploded in it's desire to round up this "lost art". Folk art they were calling it. My interest in local history lead me to trace my family roots to one of these old time pottery producers. Fred Reppert turned out to be an ancestor of mine, or "Uncle Fred" as my aunt called him.
One thing lead to another and culminated in November of 1978 when New Geneva Stoneware was founded. Dedicated to paying a 20th century tribute to these 19th century producers, we vowed to keep alive this old tradition of blue decorated pottery, and adapting it to the needs of modern consumers. We are now located in a century-old building in my hometown of McClellandtown, Pennsylvania where we produce our pottery and market it along with local and national crafts, candles, prints, home decor items and now, antiques. I hope you enjoy our website, as it is produced by our youngest daughter, Rachel and is "only the tip of the iceberg" that is New Geneva Stoneware.
Our shop is a charming mix of history lesson and shopping exprience with a touch of a treasure hunt displayed in an atmosphere that tends to make time stand still. The mix of items changes often with new pots from the kilns and fresh crafts and antiques arriving almost daily. To fully appreciate what we have to offer, you must arrange a visit. We are open daily 9 to 5 including Saturdays. We hope to see you here soon !
